Magical images from a creative couple

Since taking early retirement Allan and Lorna Grey have taken up a whole new pastime based around photography and technology.
Their business Hidden Treasure Photography offers photo restoration, montage creation and photo illusions which offers something altogether more unusual.
The couple, of Glebe Way in Oakham, retired about five years ago and although Allan had shown some earlier interest in photography, their interest and their business started then.
He said: "I used to take photos at a number of events, but that was pre digital. Then after retirement I became more interested in digital photography and the things you can do with a computer."
The restoration side blossomed after Lorna's mother had some of her own old photos restored and Allan thought he could do just as good a job, if not better.
So he had a go, was impressed by the results and Hidden Treasure Photography was born.
He said: "We're fortunate to do a lot of travelling and can often come back from a trip with up to 1,000 photos which is how the idea of photo montages came about."
Lorna added: "Lots of people are interested in family history now so the montages are very popular. But the restoration is the favourite part of it for me. The photos we receive have a meaning to the person who brings them in and we get to hear about the story behind it.
"It's lovely to see their reactions after Allan has restored it."
Lorna, a former teacher, now volunteers at the Help the Aged shop in Oakham and the couple run regular photo restoration sessions there.
Their Photo Illusions take common Rutland scenes and add an interesting twist with the help of technology to create the likes of tigers in the castle grounds and glaciers at Rutland Water.
One scene even shows palm trees on the reservoir shores and when it was entered into an art competition last summer, one viewer wanted to know where on the water they were.
Allan and Lorna Grey's Photo Magic exhibition runs at Victoria Hall from Thursday, May 22 until Wednesday 28.
