Arrogant motorists

When is Rutland County Council going to introduce traffic wardens to the streets of Oakham and Uppingham, as neighbouring local authorities have done?
The arrogance of motorists in Oakham really does beggar belief.

Every time I am in town, I witness the most appalling – and illegal – parking on double-yellow lines (especially outside Moore's estate agent, Mermaid Fish Bar and the police statio
n).

Increased parking restrictions also need to be put in place on Kilburn Road, in the form of double yellow lines, to put a stop to extensive disruption of the residents in this area by the staff, pupils, parents and visitors of Oakham School.

Oakham School needs to realise that they do not have the monopoly on Kilburn Road and that they share access with local residents.

The practice of parking along the length of Kilburn Road, predominantly by Oakham School vehicles, effectively makes the access route single-lane, and is dangerous – particularly for an emergency vehicle that requires immediate access.

The gateways to Oakham School properties need to be made more visible for vehicles exiting them.

Now that the housing estate has been built at Kilburn End, it has made Kilburn Road a very busy route. Rather than anyone connected to Oakham School moaning and complaining about this, we have all got to learn to live in harmony with one another.

With a bit of common sense, it can be done!

I'm in total agreement with everything Paul Johnston had to say in his letter about the requirement of a traffic warden in the town, but mostly with his comment about Kilburn Rd. I have been a resident of Kilburn End for the last 4 years and the parking on this road just gets worse. If you time it wrong on a Saturday afternoon you have no chance of getting home with buses collecting children from the school playing fields. I have had to wait for up to 1/2 hour to get down the road as there is no way of passing when they double park against the parked cars which can sometimes stretch right down to the opening of the cemetry. I have written to Oakham school about this problem but they didn't even bother to reply. Double yellow lines yes please.
