I feel it necessary to show my support for Bethany Perrin and the Waggon & Horses.
I regularly drink in this pub at the weekends, not because it is my local, but because of the friendly welcome that I receive when I walk through the door, as well as its safe and happy atmosphere.
I find it terribly upsetting that this ancient and traditional pub may lose its licence due to complaints from local residents.
Surely, when people are forced to congregate outside due to the smoking ban a certain amount of noise is to be expected?
In addition, surely people should expect to overhear general babble when they chose to move near to a pub?
I know from personal experience that Bethany on a very regular basis goes outside to ensure people are as quiet as they can be.
If I was in Bethany's position I would feel under incredible pressure – she is trying to run a successful (and legal) business, but is constantly aware that people might complain.
She also asks people when they are leaving the premises to be be respectful of her neighbours and as quiet as possible.
Please be assured that this landlady, although younger than normal, is an extremely respectful person.
She is also following the law to the letter (even if it involves refusing friends and locals entry past 11pm at the weekends).
