The article in last week's Times regarding the call for a review of the licence for the Waggon and Horses pub in Uppingham has prompted me to write.
An occasional visitor to Uppingham, I sometimes drop into this pub and have thus far been impressed by the standard of management and hospitality.

Of course any noise issues should be dealt with out of respect for the neighbours, but the answer must be to encourage a solution that will satisfy all parties, rather than pull the carpet out from under this young lady's feet by withdrawing her licence.

Heaven knows we often read about the lack of ambition amongst youngsters nowadays.

If there are any real concerns about the landlady's age then surely by installing the CCTV and joining the Watch scheme she has demonstrated her maturity and commitment.

When reviewing the licence the Committee should look for a proportionate response to the problem.
