What a shame that Joan Gibson's idea of a major education improvement plan is to move Oakham Primary School from the centre of the catchment area it serves to the town's edge or beyond.
I agree with county councillor Richard Gale that a

location beyond the bypass would not be right. My children and I currently enjoy a healthy walk to the school site. If the school moves to the north or south side of town, I would have to drive my children to and from school. If the county chooses a site now outside of the bypass, how could that be made safe – an overpass, an underpass, a re-routing of the bypass? Who would pay for that? I believe that a clever planner could use the school's fine actual site in a way that all the parties using it would benefit.

I would be interested to know what other parents and Rutland taxpayers think about this.
