Many parents will have recently received the post-16 consultation document published jointly by RCC and Casterton Business and Enterprise College.
However I urge all Rutland residents to consider the impact of the proposed changes to post 16 education within the county.

Is it sensible to have the only admissions authority for post 16 education to be based at Casterton? Surely this excludes t
he majority of students within the county.

Why the move from an Oakham base which has good public transport links to a small isolated village at the very fringe of the county?

Many of Casterton's students are currently drawn from Lincolnshire rather than Rutland.

Why have both Catmose College and Uppingham Community College been excluded from the proposals?

Both consistently perform well delivering high quality results at GCSE.

I suggest that students from these two schools are now more likely to travel out of the county for post 16 education rather than transfer to the proposed Casterton trust.

What will happen to the existing Rutland College site, currently owned by Tresham Institute which is based in Kettering? (we can probably all guess the outcome there).

I urge you to make representations to the county council before the consultation period expires on February 15 and question this nonsense of a proposal.

I am writing to voice my great concern about the process to date about the proposal for post 16 changes in Rutland.

Apart from the changes proposed, I strongly object to the bias inherent in the questionnaire itself, which I decided to complete online to Rutland County Council.

I do not want any responses to go to the college as this provides an opportunity for sifting of responses and therefore not a true result.

However, by trying to complete the questionnaire online through the county council you can only answer one question.

However, if I answer the questionnaire through the Casterton Business and Enterprise College route, amazingly this actually works properly.

This has not improved my option of the whole process . . . it stinks!

I shall rally everyone I can to post their response to the council offices as I suspect that otherwise no true unbiased response to the process which reflects real opinion is possible.
