I wholeheartedly agree with Sheila Smith's comments about access via Parkfield Road to the new houses which are to be built as part of the Big Build.
Thankfully our two county council members noticed the deviation from the original plans.
I would like to add my own observations as a resident of West Ward Oakham. This area was never built to accommodate such a large volume of traffic.
Lonsd
ale Way is congested enough without the routing of school buses adding to the problem. Hopefully this will improve when the Big Build is completed.
Kings Road is a hazard. These houses have nowhere else to park other than the narrow road. Heaven alone knows what would happen if there was a serious fire.
Braunston Road has another hazard by an ill placed mini roundabout at the junction of Balmoral Road. There have been several accidents in this area and the traffic calming is not helping the situation as most motorists do not observe the speed limit.
West Road is now becoming another problem with parking along the highway and some places only wide enough for one way.
Snowdon Avenue and Grampian Way have only one garage to each house and two car families and visitors have to park on the highway.
The interconnecting footpaths to these dwellings, after over 30 years, have never been adopted and are in a bad state of repair. It makes it impossible for access to the rear of the houses for tradespeople. such as window cleaners.
Cold Overton Road is always busy with traffic. Lorries, horseboxes, cars, pedestrians and cyclists and seldom is the speed limit observed. I understand when the factory refurbishment is completed they will be taking on more staff. More and more medical practice patients will be adding to the problem. Most houses do not have hard standing for cars. The speed limit is not observed. Sometimes the cars are backed up to the hospital because of the congestion at the level crossing.
Parkfield Road and Hill Road dwellings were built with little space for cars and families with small children. To add to the congestion by making access to extra houses is a ludicrous idea.
Come on planners and members take a walk in the wild side and then you will see the problem first hand. I could give you a conducted tour if you like. What about Monday mornings between 8.50 and 10.30am.
Living in hope.
