On behalf of 16th Regiment Royal Artillery, I would like to thank your readers and the people of Rutland for the outstanding show of support at the Welcome Home Parade in Oakham last week.
The turnout was excellent and the reception from all those lining the route of the parade was absolutely superb.

Due to our specialist role in protecting forces from rocket attack in Iraq, 32 (Minden) Battery was one of the last units to leave Basra.

Consequently, after a long and testing deployment, it was fantastic for the soldiers, airmen and their families to receive such a rapturous reception from the local community.

It is clear that the public still have a great deal of respect and admiration for the young men and women of our Armed Forces who continue to do such a dangerous job under difficult circumstances.

However, with elements of the Regiment already redeployed to Afghanistan the operational tempo is set to continue and our thoughts now rest with the families of those currently deployed overseas.

Lt Col Richard Couzens MBE RA,
Commanding Officer
16th Regiment Royal Artillery
St George's Barracks,
North Luffenham
