A Rotarian was presented with one of the highest club awards during a celebration.
Dennis Whight, of Glaston Road, Wing, was given the Paul Harris Fellowship Award for his outstanding contributions to the community during the Rotary Club of Rutland's 58th charter night.

Mr Whight held the Rotary club presidency on two occasions but has also served on Wing Parish Council, Uppingham Twinning Association and is a lay preacher on the Methodist circuit.

The dinner at Greetham Valley Golf Club was attended by 70 members and guests, including the club's first female president, Gail Griffin, and Rotary district governor Iain Vernon.

Rotary press officer Malcolm Mann, 61, of Willoughby Road, Empingham, paid tribute to Mr Whight's community work.

He said: "Dennis has given so much for local charities and good causes over the years that he fully deserves this award."

The evening was rounded off with a talk by Mike Lewis.
