Your views wanted on county's future
The next stage of a major consultation on the future of Rutland gets under way on Saturday.
Residents are being urged to have their say on Rutland County Council's 20 Year Vision document which sets out how the county could change.
Issues up for debate include population predictions, housing needs, an Uppingham bypass and a vocational training college.
Areas of land with development potential for 3,915 homes in Oakham have been highlighted including the north west of the town where Bourne-based developer Hawskmead is proposing 1,000 homes. Land to the east of the town is also highlighted.
In Uppingham the vision focuses on a bypass and building an additional 1,029 homes along the western side of the town. A new vocational college, more shops and transport hubs are also in the mix.
A consultation session was held on June 16 at the council offices and on Saturday (August 2) public consultation events are planned in Uppingham and Oakham and a mobile library will also be touring eight villages with information.
Councillor Terry King said: "We need to know whether the community feels this reflects their ideas and wishes and it's vitally important that as many people as possible get a chance to put their comments forward."
Anybody who wants to view the plans or comment in Uppingham should visit the Town Hall between noon and 2pm, and in Oakham at the county council offices between 2.30pm and 4.30pm.
The mobile library will also be touring villages on the same day, spending 45 minutes in each location starting King Edward's Way, Edith Weston, at 9am; then Main Street, Empingham near the White Horse at 10am; High Street, Ketton, Queen Victoria Jubilee Fountain, 11am; Church Street, Ryhall, outside the village hall, midday; Greetham Community Centre, 1pm; Main Street, Cottesmore, 2pm; Whissendine Primary School, 3pm; and Well Street, junction with Fairfield Close, Langham at 4pm.
Comments can also be submitted by completing the online feedback forms on www.rutland.gov.uk and also through local libraries.
Following the public consultation Rutland county councillors will discuss the vision on August 11.
