More than 800 children enjoyed a fun-packed day at Stamford Arts Centre.

The centre in St Mary’s Street hosted its second annual Fabulously Fun Family Open Day on Friday last week in a bid to get families and youngsters through the door to see what the Arts Centre has to offer.

And with an eye-catching silver stilt walker creating a buzz in the High Street, it wasn’t long before the centre was packed with children, from babies to teenagers, enjoying the activities.

Starbright Entertainments laid on ultra violet puppet shows in the theatre, while in the ballroom children took part in some out of this world art and craft activities, creating a huge planet and rocket.

Dozens of youngsters had fun getting involved in the colouring competition while drumming workshops meant the fun could be heard across the Arts Centre.

As well as families and their youngsters, Star Wars villain Darth Vader also paid a visit.

Many of the children went home with paint on their faces, thanks to the efforts of staff from Sukies Party Emporium in Stamford, but all of them went home with a smile on their face.

Audience development manager at the Arts Centre Jo Dobbs described it as an excellent day.

She said: “The stilt walker really did create an amazing buzz and it was very busy all day.

“We had at least 600 children through the puppet show and I would say at least 800 over the course of the day.

“We were really pleased with how it all went - it was very exciting and everyone had a fantastic time.”

Staff at the Arts Centre are keen to get families involved in the programme of events that are run there. To find out more, visit www.stamfordartscentre.com.
