The owners of a nursery that opened its doors in December are investing £12,000 in a new garden full of exciting areas for youngsters.
Charlotte Malony and Lucy Charlton are enjoying the initial success of Oakham Day Nursery, based in the new Oakham Enterprise Park in Ashwell Road.
They have now started work on a significant project to improve the garden to give children more space to play.
Charlotte said: “This is the first opportunity we have had to get the garden done. It’s the first summer of being open and we wanted to make the most of it.”
Work began this week to take up the existing turf and replace it with an artificial, low-maintenance lawn.
A log cabin will be built, where children will be able to enjoy storytelling in a fairytale setting. There will also be an outdoor classroom to give youngsters a new space in which to play and learn.
And something that children are sure to enjoy is the mud kitchen. Charlotte said: “It’s very messy play. The kids will be able to make their own mud pies. It will be like a little cafe.
“The whole idea behind the nursery is that we want children to come in and want to play with everything.”
The nursery will host an open day on July 12, by which time Charlotte and Lucy hope the garden will be completed. They are excited to see their business growing.
“It’s going well,” said Charlotte.”
