Website set up for Ketton wind farm campaigners

CAMPAIGNERS against plans to build two wind turbines near their villages have set up a website.

REG Windpower wants to build two 100m masts on land off Steadfold Lane, near Ketton, and has submitted a planning application to Rutland County Council.

The Ketton and Tinwell Action Group on Wind Turbines was formed to oppose the plans and has set up a website, www.stopsteadfoldlanewindfarm.co.uk

Ketton resident Beth Osborne became project manager for the website after seeing a blimp flown by REG Windpower to show the approximate height of the proposed turbines.

She said: “Once I started to realise how close the turbines would be I wanted to get involved with the protest group.

“It was difficult to visualise them. We wanted to try and bring it to life for people.”

The site contains information about the plans, including links to the application on the Rutland County Council website and a objections from the Ministry of Defence and Hanson Cement, which is close to the site.

There are links to Rutland county councillors’ contact details and a contact form.

The action group has superimposed images of turbines over photos taken of the blimp in Ketton and Tinwell.

Mrs Osborne added: “The new website is a great opportunity for local people to find out more about the proposal and why it is being opposed and to see for themselves how it could impact on their lives.

“It has three objectives: to oppose the planning application, to provide clear communication with Rutland County Council about the impact of the turbines on the community and to provide information for local residents.

“It’s a great source of thought-provoking information, images and news articles along with the objections and views raised by the action group. We really look forward to hearing from people and welcome any thoughts or feedback on the proposal and the website itself.”

REG Windpower has its own website about the plans www.steadfoldlanewindfarm.co.uk.

It has also hosted public exhibitions and consultation events and took some residents to view a working wind farm.

The planning application is currently being considered by Rutland County Council, with a decision expected by December.
