Pupils celebrated Leicester City Football Club’s amazing achievement of becoming Premier League champions in the same style as the players - with a slice of pizza!

Carl Smith, who is principal at Casterton College Rutland, wanted the whole school to join in with the amazing celebrations that have swept across Leicester since the team won the Premier League, against 5,000 -1 odds.

A lifelong Foxes fan and a season ticket holder, Mr Smith came up with the idea of offering pupils a free slice of pizza on Friday last week after remembering manager Claudio Ranieri’s famous promise to give pizza to his players if they kept a clean sheet earlier in the season.

He said: “This is the most marvellous news for Rutland and Leicestershire and worthy of something really special.

“Many of our students are Leicester fans, as are their parents, as well as many staff, and days like this come very rarely so we really wanted to recognise it in some way.

“The Leicester story is such an inspirational one because it reflects our motto that ‘ability is not fixed’ and with hard work, and learning from our mistakes, all of can improve and enjoy success.

“If Leicester can do it, so can we!”

All pupils who came with a Leicester shirt or scarf were rewarded with pizza for lunch during ‘Foxes Friday’.

The school’s celebrations came just a day before captain Wes Morgan lifted the trophy following the team’s last home game at the King Power Stadium.
