A workshop that has gone from strength to strength at HMP Stocken Prison, now offers inmates the opportunity to gain qualifications, to help them upon release into the community.

Inmates at HMP Stocken Prison, near Stretton have been busy repairing and renovating old bicycles as part of a scheme, run alongside charity On Y’er Bike to create more meaningful work for prisoners.

The bicycle workshop which started back in 2002, has proved a great success amongst the inmates, with the opportunity to gain a City and Guilds qualification in Bicycle Maintenance and Repair.

Inmates spend time transforming the bikes to their former glory, which are then collected by the On Y’er Bike charity and sold to low income families, providing them with a form of transport and exercise.
