Exton Day proved a success on Bank Holiday Monday despite events elsewhere across the county.

The annual event included stalls around the village, archery and a dog show on the village green.

More than 60 dogs entered the show and best in show was Adler, a Bernese mountain dog Leonberger, who is 18 months old and is owned by Julie Freeman.

Best puppy was Lyn Bradbury’s Denny, who was four-months-old, from the Homes 4Dogs.co.uk He was wearing a collar as he has had a small operation for a hernia but little Denny did not let that stop him. He will be needing a home shortly.

Several rescue organisations attend Exton Day.

A new venture was the appearance of the Alpacas owned by Sam and Zac. They strutted in the dog show ring before judging and proved popular with visitors.

Rutland Morris also paid a visit to perform before going onto Oakham Castle.

Annette Oliver, one of the organisers, said it was a “coolish day” but there was lots of fun to be had.

The event raised more than £2,000 for the Villagers for Exton Church fund.

A small amount was also raised for the Exton and Greetham School, which will be used to buy new seating for the reading area.
