YOUNGSTERS are getting into the Olympic spirit by trying their hands at new sports.
Pupils at St Mary and St John Primary School in North Luffenham have been learning about Olympic values in the run-up to this summer’s Games and on Friday were given the chance to try some activities for themselves.
Among the sports on offer were basketball, fencing and rounders and pupils had a great time trying them out in the sunshine.
A dance teacher also stopped by to teach children some new moves.
And youngsters used bamboo and wires to create their own version of Turner Prize-winning artist Anish Kapoor’s Olypmic Park sculpture.
Later in the afternoon the school sang the national anthem led by Jen Dancy, 11, on the flute, and Amelia Hubbard, 11, with a ballet routine.
Jen said: “We haven’t really done anything like this before so to play the anthem with my year group has been really good.”
