Patients will no longer be able to stay at Oakham’s Rutland Memorial Hospital overnight if massive new cost-cutting plans go ahead.

Recommendations have been leaked which show the University Hospitals of Leicester could scale back almost all community hospitals in Leicestershire and Rutland. with Oakham earmarked to lose all of its in-patient beds.

St Mary’s Birth Centre at Melton would also close as part of a drive to help save £400,000 million in the period up to 2021.

The draft version of the Sustainability and Transformation Plan was reported this morning by BBC Radio Leicester and it also states that acute services at Leicester General would be re-located at the Leicester Royal Infirmary and Glenfield Hopitals.

The draft report did not give a timescale on when the centre might be closed if the plans are implemented.

The Rutland and Stamford Mercury and the Rutland Times are awaiting a response on today’s news from the University of Leicester Hospitals.
