A free family fun day was held on Saturday last week for people to get a first glimpse at the new Active Rutland Hub.
The new centre for local sport, leisure and community groups, housed in the former Ashwell Prison alongside Oakham Enterprise Park, gave people a chance to try some of the activities on offer there ahead of its official opening.
This included taster sessions for Vale Judo, Jem’s Hip Hop and Oakham Artistic Gymnastics Academy, as well as information about healthy eating, personal fitness and upcoming events such as the Rutland Marathon.
Portfolio holder for development Coun Terry King (Con) said: “Saturday’s open day was a huge success and we would like to thank everyone who braved the weather to come and see the new hub.
“We had more than 250 visitors to the site over the course of the afternoon, with lots of positive feedback about the facilities.
“The activities and taster sessions were all well supported, with lots of interest in judo, dance and gymnastics.
“Anyone who would like to find out more about the hub can do so by visiting www.activerutland.org.uk.
“We are now looking forward to welcoming the Princess Royal to the county next month to officially open the centre.”
