A village fete was revived at the weekend in a bid to raise funds for the revamp of a community centre.

Members of Ketton Sports and Community Centre, formerly known as Ketton Sports Association, organised the fete, which took place on Sunday at the centre in Pit Lane.

The traditional fete included stalls, fairground rides and a bouncy castle, face painting, lucky dip and refreshments, which were much-needed in the hot sunshine!

Local band Heisenberg also entertained the visitors and there were games of bubble football to be played.

Hanson Cement also supported the event, sponsoring the marquees, and providing a digger for youngsters to have a look at.

There was also a selection of classic cars and Volkswagen campervans to be explored.

Funds are still being counted but the event looks to have raised about £1,300, which will go towards a drive to modernise the community centre which will cost about £250,000.

Trustee Kellie Charge said the fete was a fantastic day, not just for villagers from Ketton but for visitors from further afield.

She said: “It was a really good day and for our first fete were really pleased with how it went. It was such a beautiful day that people were able to go and get a drink and sit and watch the band, which was absolutely perfect.”

It is the first time in recent years that a fete has been held in Ketton and Kellie and the other members of the centre are already thinking about making it an annual event.

Kellie added: “We would hope to grow the event year-on-year to make it even more successful and we’re grateful for any feedback so we can keep on improving, and holding events that people want.”

Kellie thanked St John Ambulance for members’ attendance on the day and for all the volunteers, who ran stalls.
