MP's questionable judgement
MP Alan Duncan has once again demonstrated questionable judgement by inviting a known activist in to the House of Commons and being caught on camera whingeing about pay and conditions.
He clearly has not learned his lesson after his foolish and ill-judged comments on Have I got News for You.
On this latest occasion, however, he has gone a step further with his comment about MPs being on rations.
This is offensive to an entire generation who fought and lived through the Second World War surviving on rations during and after the conflict.
It is equally insulting to the brave service men and women from Rutland and Melton on the front line in Afghanistan living on ration packs.
Their starting pay is just under 17,000 and they normally have to pay for their food and accommodation out of their salaries when not on operations, which Mr Duncan should bear in mind the next time he decides to complain about his pay and conditions while sipping wine on the terrace of the Commons.
While the Conservative leader, David Cameron, may be prepared to overlook Alan Duncan's latest embarrassing gaffe, the voters of
Rutland and Melton will soon have their opportunity to register their disapproval.
As a former member of the Armed Forces and a prospective parliamentary candidate, I will raise the issue of Mr Duncan's poor judgement and his inability to understand the depth of public anger over the expenses issue whenever the General Election is called in the next year.
