4pm: THE young man who died after being hit by a train near Tinwell has been named locally as Harry Drain, 18.

Harry, who had just finished his A-levels at Stamford School this month, was crossing the railway line near West Street, Tinwell, at about 11.30am yesterday (Tuesday) when he was struck by a freight train travelling from Oakham to Stamford.

Police and paramedics, assisted by Dr Leon Roberts of volunteer medics East Midlands Immediate Care Scheme, attended but Harry was pronounced dead at the scene.

British Transport Police are not treating Harry’s death as suspicious. The train involved was a 9.25am Mount Sorrell to Kennett freight service.

The Mercury has opened a book of condolences for Harry. If you would like to pay tribute, e-mail smeditor@stamfordmercury.co.uk
