A WOMAN who is loved by parents and children alike has been shortlisted for a national award for her dedication.

Parents who attend rhyme time and story time at Oakham Library nominated Jean Smith for an award from Nursery World magazine and she has been shortlisted against two other people in the outstanding contribution category.

Jean, who works as Rutland County Council’s Bookstart coordinator at libraries across the county, will find out at a ceremony in September if she has won but says she is just thrilled to be nominated.

Jean, 62, of Oakham, said: “I was shocked when I found out I had been shortlisted.

“When the parents asked permission to put me forward, I thought I would be at the bottom of the pile.

“It is fantastic to get that appreciation from them and I would like to thank them for nominating me.”
