'Overwhelming' turnout for Cottesmore Hunt
More than 2,000 people showed up for the Cottesmore Hunt which took place on Boxing Day.
At about 11am on Boxing Day crowds gathered on foot in Oakham's Cutts Close amphitheatre, along with 70 horse riders to embark on a countryside hunt across Rutland.
The following day the Cottesmore Hunt marched on from private land in Ketton, with 50 riders making their way out across the countryside.
While the Government hunting ban remains in force, hounds can still be used to follow a scent and to flush out a fox and riders of varying ages set off on a trail along grass, hills and roads.
Cottesmore Hunt huntsman Neil Coleman said the turnout had been overwhelming. "It was well supported by so many people - more than ever before," he said.
Hunt secretary Clare Bell added: "It was amazing. We had such a good turnout and we were delighted with how it went."
The next Cottesmore Hunt takes place on New Year's Day in Uppingham's Market Place, starting at 10.45am.
