Rocks by Rail Museum ready to reopen
RUTLAND’S Rocks By Rail Museum is re-opening on Sunday, September 16 and anyone with a birthday on that day is invited to apply for a free train ride.
And the youngest visitor on the day will be asked to cut the ribbon leading to a new platform.
The visitor attraction near Cottesmore - formerly Rutland Railway Museum - has been closed for renovation. Based on former iron ore mining works it is manned by volunteers and rail enthusiasts from around the East Midlands. New helpers are always needed and are asked to contact Debra Hunt at Voluntary Action Rutland on 01572 722622.
Volunteers run the site, including the ticket office, cafe and exhibitions, work on steam and diesel engines and other artefacts and help with the infrastructure on the 19-acre site.
Apply for a free ride by emailing Simon Layfield on slayfield@wilks-head.co.uk or see the www.rocks-by-rail.org website.
