Rugby legend and former Oakham Schoolboy Lewis Moody retires
FORMER England rugby captain and Oakham Schoolboy Lewis Moody retired on Monday after a season plagued by injuries, the latest and career-ending a shoulder injury sustained against Worcester in November.
Famous for his fearless, all action style of play earning him the nick name “Mad Dog,” Moody joined the Leicester Tigers in 1996 straight from Oakham School and went on to win back to back Heineken Cups and six league titles with the club during a 218-game, 14-year career spell before leaving his Ketton home to join Bath in 2010.
He broke into the England team in 2001, earning 71 caps which included three World Cup tournament, and two finals, including England’s historic 2003 win over Australia, earning an MBE for his efforts.
In 2010 Moody was made the national captain which he retained until his international retirement in October last year.
