Rutland farmers call for ‘level playing field’ over EU policy reform
TWO MEPs have met with farmers in Rutland to discuss the forthcoming reform of the Common Agricultural Policy.
Farmers voiced their concerns to Richard Ashworth MEP (Con) and Emma McClarkin MEP (Con) at a meeting in Uppingham. The reform, which looks at changes to the structure of agriculture and food processing in EU member states, is due to come into force after 2013.
Rutland farmer Andrew Brown, director of Farming in the Park, a national exhibition of British food, farming and countryside, said: “It was a very good meeting and they went away with our views on the subject. The main point being that we want a level playing field across the European Union and we don’t want to see Rutland or other UK farmers disadvantaged.”
