A FUNDRAISING group marked a milestone achievement last week.
WaterAid Rutland held a celebration to mark reaching the £100,000 mark over six years.
A drinks party in Seaton was held at the home of chairman Hilary Williams and attended by chief executive of Water Aid Barbara Frost, community fundraising manager Victoria Rouse, community and events team leader Sarah Walker and the group’s patron and Lord Lieutenant of Rutland Dr. Laurence Howard.
Mrs Frost said Rutland was one of the first community groups that was founded and emphasised how important local fundraising work is to WaterAid.
The group raises money to help provide safe water and sanitation in Africa to transform lives in poor communities.
As little as £15 can provide safe water for life. This means that the Rutland Group has already helped about 7,000 villagers and slum dwellers in Burkina Faso and Mali.
Co-founder Anne Lawson thanked WaterAid for all the encouragement and support that Rutland had received and, together with Barbara Frost, cut a specially baked and iced WaterAid cake to commemorate the occasion.
