Sarah Outen lending a hand at launch of sea voyage

A round-the-world adventurer took a break from her training to attend the launch of a sea voyage with a crew of disabled sailors.

Sarah Outen, 27, from Oakham, is preparing for a second attempt to row across the Pacific Ocean after her first try was cut short by a storm.

She took a day off from her training on Sunday to go to Southampton and support the Jubilee Sailing Trust, which she has been a vice patron of since 2011.

The trust aims to introduce sailing to a range of people of all backgrounds and abilities. Sunday saw a mixed crew set off on the first leg of a round-the-world voyage on the Lord Nelson, a fully accessible tall ship.

Writing on her blog at www.sarahouten.com, Sarah said: “It was a wonderful, and at times emotional, weekend of launches and celebration, as the crew – from all walks of life, experience and ages – headed out to sea.

“I particularly enjoyed meeting the voyage crew and hearing some of their stories.”

Sarah has been shortlisted for a Woman of the Future Award.
