MORE than 150 people enjoyed a tea party at St George’s Barracks in North Luffenham on Tuesday.

Members of the Rutland Home Improvement Agency, which is part of Age UK Leicester Shire and Rutland, put on an old fashioned dinner and dance at the venue for vulnerable and disabled people of all ages.

Guests were entertained by young members of Leighfield Primary School’s choir and tucked into three pyramids of cakes which were made by catering students from New College Students.

Members of the 16th Regiment Royal Artillery, which is based in North Luffenham, were on hand to provide sandwiches and more cakes for those who attended, as well as nine young soldiers who helped out throughout the day.

The event was organised by the agency volunteers to give the people it helps the opportunity to get together and meet other members.

Project manager for the agency Julie Lewis said: “It was a fantastic day, and I think, one of the best ever tea parties in Rutland.

“We had fabulous support and the room was very well decorated.

“A huge, huge thank you goes to everyone who helped out on the day, from myself and my colleagues.”
