The collision happened at about 4.30pm on the southbound carriageway between South Witham and Stretton and involved a black Vauxhall Vectra and a red Rover 400.
The Rover was travelling southbound towards Stamford. The Vectra was travelling north on the northbound carriageway before the crash.

The male passenger in the Vectra was taken to Peterborough District Hospital and was discharged after treatment.
Emergency medic Dr Leon Roberts, a senior medical officer with the Royal Army Medical Corps, was called out by the ambulance service and was the first doctor on the scene. He called for the police to close both carriageways and called for assistance from other volunteer doctors from East Midlands Immediate Care Scheme, known as Emics.
Dr Tim Baker from Nottingham and Dr Matt Woods from Leicester attended the scene and another Emics doctor, Dr Bob Winter, was on duty in the emergency department at Queen’s Medical Centre. Lives First Responder Dr Andy Holdstock attended and an RAF crew returning to base stopped to help.
The road remained closed until 11.30pm.
Police are investigating and anyone with any information about the collision is asked to leave a message for DC 1761 Pete Davies on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
All doctors in Emics are volunteers who attend emergency incidents at the request of and in support of staff from East Midlands Ambulance Service.
