Groups developing neighbourhood plans for their towns and villages could benefit from a new £22.5m Government pot.
Housing and planning minister Brandon Lewis (Con) announced the fund last week. Neighbourhood planning groups will now be able to apply for grants to pay for events to engage the local community, print leaflets and to pay for specialist planning expertise.
A group in Bourne is currently looking into the possibility of drawing up a plan, which will allow residents to guide the future development of their area, including where new homes and businesses should be built.
A neighbourhood plan for Uppingham has already been completed. The plan was unsuccessfully challenged in the High Court by Bourne developer Larkfleet Homes, and has now been adopted by Rutland County Council.
