The Mayor of Oakham Alf Dewis has welcomed John Kennedy to Oakham Town Council after a by-election.

There was a 9.8 per cent turnout at the election on Thursday last week (November 19) with a total of 248 votes cast.

Coun Kennedy received 148 votes, while Jim Harrison, who stood against him, received 95 votes.

The election was called for the vacant Oakham North West ward seat after Rebecca Hearn stepped down.

The council is still short one member after the resignation of Paul Mills earlier this month. He represented the Oakham South East ward. A by-election will be held if 10 electors from the ward request on by December 4. Any such request must be made to the returning officer at Rutland County Council

The notice of vacancy can be seen at the Oakham Town Council website.
