Rutland County Council leader Roger Begy (Con) is currently out of action due to illness.
Coun Begy has been admitted to hospital and is likely to be absent from the office for some time. A statement from Rutland County Council said that “although he is still undergoing tests, the most likely diagnosis is cancer”.
Deputy leader Terry King will act as leader for the time being. Coun King is himself due to undergo a pre-planned surgical procedure today (Tuesday, January 5) and will be out of office for a short period of time while he recovers. This is not expected to exceed a week during which time Coun King will work from home.
The statement added: “All council business will proceed as usual during this time.”
