The county of Rutland will be celebrated at a special service of Choral Evensong at Peterborough Cathedral on Sunday, March 8, at 3.30pm.

The Lord Lieutenant of Rutland, Dr Laurence Howard, and the High Sheriff of Rutland, Air Commodore Miles Williamson-Noble, will join representatives of the county and the local uniformed services, as well as other members of the community, for the service.

Using the freedom we enjoy for the good of all humanity, and giving thanks for those who gave their lives to defend that freedom, will be themes in the service. Rutland MP Sir Alan Duncan will read an extract from that 800-year-old statement of freedoms, the Magna Carta.

During the service, the colours of the Royal Anglian Regiment and the Queen’s Colour of the Royal Auxiliary Air Force will be presented, and young people from schools and colleges in the county will give the Bible readings. The Rev Jo Saunders, Priest in Charge of Great Casterton, Little Casterton, Pickworth and Tickencote will preach, and the Rev Canon Lee Francis-Dehqani, Rural Dean of Rutland, will lead the prayers.

All are welcome and the congregation should be seated by 3.10pm.
