Thursday, 4.15pm: Rutland adventurer Sarah Outen has begun the final leg of her journey around the world.

Sarah, 29, from Oakham, launched from Cape Cod in the US to row to London across the North Atlantic. This is the final section of her attempt to circle the planet by kayak, bicycle and rowing boat.

She set off in her 21ft ocean rowing boat Happy Socks from Chatham Bars Inn at 2.45pm.

Sarah has spent the last five weeks in Chatham, Cape Cod, recovering from her winter bike ride across North America and preparing for the row. She has also been talking about her London2London: Via the World adventre to local school pupils.

Before she set off Sarah said: “‘This is the longest time I have spent anywhere for the past 14 months and Chatham now feels like a home from home. The people of Chatham and local organisations have been so good to me and I feel humbled and grateful for their kindness.

“It is exciting to think that home is just across the water and I am happy that I now feel ready in mind, body and boat to head east. Thank you to everyone who has been involved and wished me well.”
