The Uppingham in Bloom team is celebrating after picking up a silver gilt award in the national Britain in Bloom contest.
The results of this year’s competition were announced at a glittering ceremony on October 16 in Sunderland.
Uppingham were selected to enter for the first time after achieving top marks in the small town category following last year’s East Midlands in Bloom contest, and the committee was delighted to collect a silver gilt award.
Chairman of the Uppingham in Bloom committee Karen Emery said: “The bloom committee worked exceptionally hard to ensure the town was looking fabulous in preparation for the national judges in August.
“I was delighted with the result with it being our first year of ever being in the national competition and getting silver gilt was an excellent achievement, but even better we were given gold for horticulture.”
Karen thanked everyone in the committee for their continued hard work; Uppingham School garden’s department in particular head gardener Rob Fisher; local businesses and sponsors including Barnsdale Gardens and The Falcon Hotel; Uppingham Town Council and Uppingham WI.
The committee celebrated with a glass of bubbly but now it is back to business - planning for next year’s regional judging.
