Uppingham has been named one of the best high streets in the country in an annual competition.
Uppingham High Street came fifth in the top five of Market Towns in the annual Great British High Street competition.
The top three, which were Chipping Norton, Helmsley and Colne, will now go forward to a public vote to decide the winner. The winners will get a share of a prize pot worth £80,000, including expert advice on how to improve the town further.
This year’s competition saw a record 230 applicants.
Ron Simpson, secretary of the Uppingham First Community Partnership which submitted the entry, said: “We’re proud of Uppingham being recognised as one of Britain’s best high streets and we hope this will be a real boon for the town. “We’ve been working hard to make our community a better place to live and work and next year we hope to go one further and win the competition.”
