Brooklands: The Birthplace Of British Aviation

Brooklands has a distinguished record in aircraft design, production and development. The site is linked with many famous names in British aviation - including Sir Thomas Sopwith, Rex Pierson, Sir Sydney Camm and Sir George Edwards - and with some of the greatest achievements of the British aerospace industry.

This DVD tells the story of Brooklands, its aircraft and the engineers, designers and pilots that have made it the spiritual home of flight. Using rare archive film, it reveals the stories behind the first British powered flight by A.V. Roe in 1908, thousands of civil and military aircraft built by the Sopwith, Hawker, Vickers and British Aircraft Corporation companies. The film also highlights the crucial role that Brooklands played in flying training, record-breaking flights, light aviation, the design of the ’Dambusters’ bouncing bomb, and the significant contributions to more recent world-leading projects - most notably Concorde, Airbus, Hawk and Tornado.
