RUTLAND Water fisherman Iain Barr has been crowned World Champion Fly-Fisher.
Iain, 36, came first in the individual and team event at the world championships at Drymen, Scotland, last week.
Iain, who lives in Peterborough, said: “It was run over five sessions over three days and there were teams from Japan, America and all over Europe.”
Twenty seven teams of up to five members took part and Iain said this is the first time England has won the event in its current size and format.
He said: “We class this as the first time England have won and 1995 was the last time there was an English individual champion.
“It is all done on fish length. You score points for each fish and the length of each fish. One of the longest was a 39cm trout but it is the quantity of fish that is the target.”
Iain has fished for 30 years and was double (individual and team) European champion in 2007 but he said: “This was the one that I wanted.”
Next year’s world championship takes place in Poland and Iain hopes to defend his title at the competition.
