Oakham School skipper Josh Cobb was drafted in for his first match in The Twenty20 Cup for Leicestershire on Friday.
The teenager faced only two balls and made two not out in the 23 run victory over Derbyshire at Grace Road.

Leicestershire had already been eliminated from the group stages of the competition so Cobb was given his chance in the dead rubber.

He made his county championship debut last summer against Northants and will be training full time with the club at the end of the school term.

Cobb said: "It was great experience for me to play in the Twenty20 Cup. There was a decent crowd there and now I hope to get more opportunities."

Cobb captained Oakham School to 10 victories from a traditionally strong fixture list.

They beat the schools of St Albans, Wisbech Grammar, Peterborough Beacon, Trent, Bedford, Stamford (twice), Wellingborough as well as recording successes against the XL Club and the Lord's Taverners, who included three ex-England Test players.

Leading run scorers were Fabian Taylor and Richard Grundy. Fabian, who was named Rutland Times Cricketer of the Year in March at our annual awards night, scored a superb 106 not out in the win against a very strong Bedford School XI. Top wicket-taker was left arm spinner Joe Cuthbert.

Oakham School conclude their season in a festival at Wellington College in Berkshire this week.
