Stuart Broad and the England bowlers had a tough time of it as India piled up the runs in the first one-day international.

The Whissendine bowler failed to take a wicket as he went for 74 runs off his 10 overs at Rajkot.

Yuvraj Singh, who hit Broad for six sixes in a single over at last year's World Cup, smashed an unbeaten 138 off 78 balls as India hoisted an imperious 387-5 off their 50 overs.

In reply England slumped to 229 all out but Broad showed some defiance down the order with a quickfire 26.

Broad had missed Tuesday's warm-up defeat in Mumbai with a sore knee but passed a late fitness test.

India are fresh from defeating Australia 2-0 in a home Test series - the Aussies' first series loss since the 2005 Ashes.

England are playing seven one-dayers before the Test matches begin on December 11.
