CRICKET: Market Overton beat Oakham in under 15 showdown
Market Overton Under 15s (pictured) carved out a good home victory over Oakham A with a superb all-round team display.
Having won the toss, Marko batted first. Although they lost a few early wickets opening bat and captain Ryan Thwaites (18) kept his cool and crashed two magnificent sixes – one travelling a long distance into the play park – off the bowling of J Allen.
Proving once again that cricket is about team-work, Market Overton batted consistently as wickets fell.
They reached 103 off their 20 overs with Ben Cox (9 not out) and Ricky Dryland (10 not out) smashing 13 off the last over.
The home bowlers then set out to defend their total and began well when opening strike bowler Luke Clark removed three of the top four in his first three overs, finishing on 3-6 off four overs.
He was well supported at the other end by Ryan Thwaites (1-3). The change of bowling saw Matt Perry taking 2-8 and more wickets fell, including a run out resulting from an incredible piece of fielding by Matt Nicholls.
The bowlers were backed up with some sharp fielding and excellent catches by Miles Fortnam and Adam Morris.
Alex Edmunds swapped the wicketkeeping gloves to deliver a double-wicket maiden.
The remaining Oakham wickets fell by the 15th over with them all out for a low total of 31. C Baker (7) was the top scorer for Oakham.
Market Overton demonstrated that teamwork brings confidence in ability and the way they have supported each other throughout this season, win or lose, has impressed everyone working with them.
