CRICKET: Oakham face relegation battle

Oakham slipped to second from bottom after a 45-run defeat by high-flying Boston on Saturday.
The Rutland club, who have challenged for the title in recent seasons have won just three of their 11 South Lincs and Border League Division 1 matches this summer.

Rory Brown took 4-26 as Boston posted 174-9 in the latest clash at the Mayflower ground but Oakham were bowled out for just 129 in reply, Sam Wills top-scoring with 42.

Oakham 2nds lost by five wickets at home to Thomas Cook at the Lime Kilns.

The Rutland club scored 141 (Hurst 5-18) and the Peterborough side passed their target with five wickets in hand, Shah hitting 81 not out.

There was a thrilling finish when Uppingham Town travelled to Market Deeping in Rutland League Division 2.

Deeping posted 153-5 in 35 overs and the Rutlanders got to within two runs before being bowled out.

Other Rutland League scores:
Market Overton 2nds 89 lost to East Carlton 90-5; Uppingham Town 2nds 145-9 beat Market Deeping 2nds 82; Oakham 2nds 122-5 beat Bourne 2nds 120; Ketton 2nds 218-6 beat Benefield 146.
