Rangers suffered a rare shut-out as they experienced the difference in standard of top flight football.
The Rutlanders have started this season well after being promoted but their opponents on Saturday were clinical in front of goal.

Manager Andy Saddington said afterwards: "We didn't take our chances and they punished us.

"We know where we went wrong and it was just one of those days for us."
Rangers kicked off without the unavailable Stu Lambie, Sam Munton and Liam Hollingsworth.

Whittlesey took the lead midway through the first half. Defenders and goalkeeper Shane Hicks failed to attack a free kick from the right side and the ball crept in at the far post from the boot of Peter Fox.

The Rutland club piled on the pressure at the start of the second half, winning four corners which led to goalmouth scrambles. Robbie Pearce also hit the crossbar as Rangers sought an equaliser.

But Whittlesey doubled their lead when a free kick was only half-cleared to Garry Jackson and he fired home a sweet shot.

It got worse shortly afterwards when John Watson buried a free header past Hicks.

Rangers will be hoping to bounce back on Saturday when they host Oundle Town at Greetham.

Rangers: Hicks, Forbes, Bain, Saddington, Farr, Smith, R Nelson, Dalby, Flavell, M Nelson, Pearce. Subs – Wood, Hibberd.
