Another high scoring cup fixture saw Cottesmore bow out of the Saturday Shield at the hands of their Goldsmiths league counterparts Hathern Reserves.

Hathern drew first blood when a looped free kick found the net midway through the first half.

Cottesmore replied with the goal of the game when excellent passing around the box and an inch perfect cross from Seb Archer-Fern was headed in by Rob M
ontgomery to take the game into the half-time break all square.

In the second half Cottesmore were punished early for sloppy defending with Hathern winning possession when the ball should have been cleared and scoring to take the lead.

They then added a third within a couple of minutes.

Cottesmore came back again through Montgomery and could have drawn level had they taken chances.

Hathern again restored the two goal advantage as Cottesmore were pushing for an equaliser.

But back came Cottesmore with a third goal to keep the pressure on.

Again Cottesmore wasted chances and Hathern scored their fifth goal to effectively end the contest in their favour.

Caretaker manager Rich Giblin said "We played some good football again today but sloppy defending and missed chances have cost us.

"It's a shame to be out the shield but we'll try and make up for it against Ansty next Saturday"

Cottesmore man of the match: Lee Freer.

Cottesmore's next game is on Saturday at home to Anstey Nomads Reserves, 2pm kick off.
