Teenage golfing talent Sam Sharpe is on course to be a future star after landing a prestigious scholarship at a university in the United States.
The 18-year-old has had a remarkable summer at Greetham Valley Golf Club after winning the junior championship for the third time last week to add to his success as senior club champion for 2008.

His ability has helped win him a place at universities in either Iowa or Florida.

He must choose which one and will begin studying a sports psychology degree and playing golf for the college from next August.

He said: "It is a great opportunity for me.

"I will get the chance to develop my game and when I come back from America I will be trying to get a place on one of the tours.

"My ambition is to become a golf professional and this scholarship will help me achieve that."

His superb form has allowed Sam to cut his handicap to one.

He won the men's club title at Greetham by four shots and then the juniors by two.

Sam added: "I started playing golf at the age of four with a plastic set of clubs.

"I joined the club at nine and that's when I started playing competitively off 33.

"My putting is the strongest part of my game but I need to work on my long irons."
