Rutland's men's first XI boosted their chances of promotion with an impressive win over a team level on points with them near the top of the table.
In an exciting and eventful local derby, Rutland started strongly and controlled the game for the opening 15 minutes, moving the ball slickly around the pitch.

It wasn't long until they started to create chances and after a mesmerising piece of dribbling from the young Louis Scarrott they took the lead.

Peter Comben then capitalised upon slack defending to increase the lead to 2-0. However, Peterborough showed resilience and after a slow start came back into the game.

After a sustained period of pressure, the city club pulled a goal back and started to build momentum as they added a second to tie the game at two goals a piece.

The tide looked to have changed, but the game remained open and the experience of Oliver Browne paid dividends as he put Rutland into a 3-2 lead at half-time.

As the second half began, Rutland once again dictated the pace and tempo of the game.

Captain Tom Crees showed great leadership in the middle of the pitch as he pushed the team to apply pressure.

Crees came up from the midfield for a penalty corner and provided a lethal finish past the despairing goalkeeper.

Peterborough seemed to be running out of ideas and Rutland effectively finished the game after a quick breakaway and a calculated finish from Jake Loomes.

There was little response from Peterborough and the attacks were dealt with swiftly by the ubiquitous Rutland defence.
