RUTLAND 1st XI stormed to a 6-0 win over fellow mid-table side March Town in Uppingham on Saturday.

Keen to avenge a 5-2 defeat earlier in the season, Rutland started with the same XI that slipped to a heavy defeat at Cambridge Nomads last time out but began this game much stronger, moving the ball upfield with far more control.

Several chances came and went before the home team eventually took the lead via a James Grant short corner strike.

The lead was doubled shortly after, when Scott Perry's fine long pass pierced the March defence for Jordan Allen to score.

March had chances as they sought to fight their way back into the game, but with Rutland keeper Armstrong looking in good nick there were no major alarms, and Gareth Clarke added a third for Rutland before half time.

Rutland brought on Charlie Bromwich and former skipper Ollie Browne at half time, both making their first appearances for the first team this season and although the second period was a more disjointed affair, Rutland were able to add another three to their goal tally through Perry, Allen and Browne.

Rutland: Armstrong, Grant, Bailey, Cooper, Robertson, Pinner, Clarke, Perry, Brayshaw, Allen, Browne, Bromwich, Ashwin.
