Brad Mowat, a member of Oakham's Vale Judo Club, has been selected for the England youth squad for the first time - he joins clubmate Chloe Jones, who is in her third year with the national team.

A student at Uppingham Community College, Brad has only been doing Judo for three years but finished the year in the top five in his weight.

He was selected for the international squad for his potential and improvement over the past year.

Brad trains three times a week at the Vale Judo Club and once a month at the world class start programme in Walsall, which features other youth cadets and is coached by Jamie Johnson, the England youth coach.
He has thanked Mike Newton, the Vale club's senior coach, for getting him to this standard of judo and for coaching him at all the competitions.

Chloe, a pupil at Casterton College, has made big improvements to her judo this year, cumulating with a gold medal at the Heart of England competition in Birmingham, which features over 900 competitors and is the second biggest tournament in this country after the nationals.
